A Memorial Day Hike

Back on Memorial Day we set off for an adventure. The cooler was packed, the destination kind of up in the air, and the water bottles ready for a hike.  We set out in a general direction not knowing exactly where we were headed.  An hours long drive found us in a little town up in the mountains.  They just happened to have a great park, right by the river. A perfect place for a picnic.

First up was lunch. I had packed the cooler full of food and also grabbed some chips, cookies, ect., not knowing I had forgotten the loaf of bread for our sandwiches.  Thankfully there was a gas station across from the park that sold bread. We set up camp and ate our lunch. Then it was on to our next adventure.

We had done a little research before hand about the area that we were currently in. Without having ever been there we drove up the road, looking for a place to hike. We finally settled on a little trail that looked suitable.  The sign said Salmon Falls.

With Katelyn as our guide we ventured up the trail.

Finding HUGE pine cones along the way. Katelyn and Maddie wanted to take them home and on the way back there is a steep decline in the trail. We told them to just drop their pine cones down the trail and pick them up at the bottom so that they could focus on getting down the trail. They kept saying " Oh no !  Runaway pine cones !!" All the way down the hill.

There was hand holding

And stick finding.

And a whole lot of rock throwing by a certain boy.

There was also rock climbing, and daddy scaring the kids. He snuck behind Katelyn and grabbed her, scaring her real bad.

Last but not least, there was a lot of sunshine. It was a hot day and the sun was beating down on us.

It was a great day and we all were tired by the time we got home.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Hello! I found your blog via Pinterest and have been enjoying looking at all of your lovely Project Life pages! I, too, am doing PL this year and am currently working on Week 20. I see that you live in Bakersfield which is actually just a stone's throw away from where I live in Ridgecrest. It's always nice to connect with people who are "local."
